How much string did you use for that?

Derek Hansen @ 9:18 am #

About 2,000 yards. Much depends on the type of string you use.

Just finish a clew using your tutorial. Thanks for that. I plan on weaving
a hammock into the clew to have a portable hammock that I can pack small
and light. Any suggestions?

David, are you looking to make a net hammock? There are several tutorials
on YouTube but none from me. I’m not much of a fan of those styles because
of how uncomfortable they are. Better to make a fabric bed and avoid waffle
back. For a light hammock you can’t beat a 1.1 oz ripstop nylon base.

Yes, that’s exactly what I want to make, just didn’t know what it was
called. I will probably end up buying a nylon hammock for use in the bush,
however, I’ve always wanted to weave my own. Thanks for your help, I do
plan on buying a copy of your book once I get my feet wet.

Yes, a net or rope hammock is what you’re looking for. However, if you want
a cozy hammock you can weave, you’re in the right place: a mayan hammock is
the most comfortable but it will take longer and is heavier.

How many times do you loop the string around the posts?

Derek Hansen @ 1:42 pm #

The number of wraps you make is determined by how wide you want the
hammock.

Timmy Harris @ 2:30 pm #

How many would you say per foot?

Not sure if this question has been asked but is there a certain brand of
#18 twisted nylon that you prefer to use and were do you purchase it?
