The district of Caraibeiras located in the municipality of Tacaratu in the state of Pernambuco is a well recognized center of textile handicraft. Its origins go back to the 17th century in a group of indians Pankararu while today about 85% of the population is involved in the production of hammocks, shawls for sofa, bed quilts, placemats, clothes and other textile goods.
